Introduced in high school, I began my chess journey from my local chess club. Losing a lot of games the first 3 days, I got discouraged and almost decided that the sport wasn’t for me. However, my coach didn’t let me give up! After a couple of months, I started beating people over the board, ultimately growing a desire for the game. Along my path I was made a council member, rewrote the chess club constitution, and increased my chess rating over 1200.
My junior year my mentor retired as a teacher essentially ending the chess program at my school. By this time I grew a passion for chess, so much to create a new team. We raised money ourselves so we could go to state that year. At the end of the competition, we proved to our school that chess was an integral part of our after-school programs. After 3 years, I had accumulated over 75 trophies, 4 plaques, and 15 recognition awards. Among these achievements, the biggest ones include 1 national title, 1 state title, and a Susan Polgar scholarship to Texas Tech.
After my 3 years of experience as a chess player, I decided to shift my point of interest to teaching children. First learning from my mentor, then branching off into companies to gain experience. Currently going on 9 years of teaching, some of my coaching accomplishments include teaching over 1000 students altogether in chess programs, going to local tournaments and placing in top 3 for school teams. My students are now competing at state level. Among my students 80% of them reach over 1100 rating within 7 months of rigorous training (from not knowing how the pieces move).
I am now ready to teach a course where my reach is far and wide. I am introducing an interactive course to give back to the community, empower others, and broaden the horizon for young children so they can fulfill their dreams.
